250 Tries were scored at the East Bath Tag-Rugby Festival hosted by Avon Rugby Club.
24 matches were played by around 180 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils from Batheaston, Bathampton, Bathford and Swainswick Primaries.
St Mark's supplied some talented referees who coached and supported the young players, for whom this was their first experience of inter-school competitive tag-rugby.
Brendan Rouse of Swainswick Primary who led the festival this year was thrilled with the high standard of play. He also noted that since the 'Red Roses' won the Women's World Cup there has been a big step up in the confidence of some of the girls this year. He was also pleased to observe some of the less competitive pupils taking part in a carousel of games based on running, passing, catching, kicking and teamwork skills.
Andi Parry of Avon Rugby Club who was the founder of the festival and who has for many years volunteered to run tag-rugby sessions in school returned to present the awards:
Bathford Reds: Overall Winners
Bathampton Yellow: Teamwork Award
Swainswick Chiefs: Energy Award
Batheaston Yellow: Plate Winners
Thank you again to Avon Rugby Club for hosting and supplying bacon butties and cups of tea.
