Avon leave it late against Tor

Avon 43 Tor 12

Avon were made to work a lot harder for their 22nd consecutive league win then the final score line suggests.  With 10 mins left on the clock The valiant Tor team were only 5 point adrift as Avon struggled to to find any rhythm as they went in search of a bonus point try.

It all started routinely for Avon with Fly half Des Bowden Taking the long way around the defence for his 22nd try of the season after 12 mins and when captain Kai Harwood crashed over under the posts from a quickly taken 5 metre pen it looked like the writing was on the wall, however inexplicable the young ref decided not to play advantage for Tor not retiring and sin binned the Offending player and rewarded the penalty.

From the resultant scrum Avon put Ben Crane away in the corner but as he sprinted in the ball fell from his hands and all of a sudden the game had a "one of those days" look about it for the Avon side.

Excellent hands from Tor then saw them score a well taken try in the corner to take a 5 7 lead and then after 35 mins the Avon players all stopped as Des Bowden called a mid air mark only to see a Tor player rip the ball from his arms and the referee award the try.

Some what incensed Avon regrouped and just before half time and man of the match Jake Dixon dummied and sidestepped his way through to level the scores.

Avon pretty much had control of the second half but it took until the 55th min for them to go ahead when hooker Ben Hurd got on the end of a series of driving mauls which were sapping the Tor team strength.

On 70 mins Tor had another player sent to the sin bin once again for stopping a quick penalty. This time Avon took full advantage running in 4 try's through Bowden, Dixon, Crane and Sam Rowlands whos score took his tally for the season over the 200 mark.

Avon know they will have to perform a lot better next week as they take on Chew Valley the team who has come closest to beating them this season
