With 9 players unavailable, this was always going to be a test of Avon’s squad strength but in the first half there was little to separate the two teams. Clevedon had taken an early lead after capitalising on an Avon error but no further scores ensued in the difficult conditions.
Shortly after the interval, Clevedon added a penalty and eventually their heavier pack took control with two converted tries resulting from powerful line out drives.
Although they sought their 4th try, stout Avon defence repelled their attacks to become the first team this season to prevent them from securing the try bonus.
Skipper Kane Book led his team well throughout but the man-of-the-match award was presented to tireless back row forward Tom Baldwin for his impressive display in attack and defence. Iain Parris also deserved a mention for his display as a stand-in scrum half, strangely the 7th player to occupy the number 9 shirt in 5 matches this season.
