Avon had gone 5 weeks without a match due to the adverse weather. Their volunteers had worked hard to prepare their 2nd pitch which was in good condition.
The game against Imperial started promisingly with Avon taking the lead after 7 minutes through a Rob Fitch penalty. With barely 10 minutes on the clock, the young Imperial 2nd Row landed awkwardly from a line out jump and suffered a serious injury to his ankle. The long wait for the ambulance to arrive left the referee no alternative but to abandon the game.
An Avon spokesman said “Whilst we are obviously frustrated to miss another match, our first thoughts are to hope that the Imperial player recovers well and can resume his rugby career next season.”
