The Rebels had arrived with a good record with 5 wins already in their armoury this season but floundered as Avon repelled their attacks to defend their Hicks Field fortress and subdue the rebellion.

The win was based on a dominant performance from the Avon pack which set the foundations with a solid set scrum and an imposing lineout presence which gave the backs an attacking platform on the front foot.

The scene was set inside 10 minutes when several powerful scrum surges eventually resulted in a pushover try scored by Dan Griffin. Further forward drives pinned the Rebels back before Rob Fitch launched a clever tactical kick out wide which was collected by winger Jack Moore to step inside for their second try. Jonny Batchelor converted both to open up an early 14 nil lead inside the first quarter.

The next period, to be honest, stagnated a little as most of the play was centred around the middle of the pitch as a series of handling errors disrupted both sides attempts at continuity. The Rebels showed their potential shortly before the interval as their dangerous backs broke out from midway to score an unconverted try before Batchelor slotted a penalty with the last kick of the half.

With Avon bringing Liam Ridley and Will Bartholomew off the bench to further bolster their impressive pack, the pressure started to mount. Xander Hall-Davis, who had a monumental afternoon with his powerful carries, burst through and offloaded to the supporting Dan Griffin who charged over the try line to touch down in the corner. Shortly afterwards, clean line out possession from Ben May set up another commanding drive with Oscar McCormack scoring their bonus point try to cap a man-of-the-match performance in the loose and tight exchanges.

As the match neared its conclusion, the Rebels again showed their danger as they finished off a midfield break to add another consolation converted try. Not to be outdone, Avon fired the last shot as the energetic Griffin again supported their final attack to collect his hat trick try.
