This was based on an all-round squad performance which unleashed some thrilling handling throughout the team. The pack showed real dominance in the set pieces and recycled the ball continuously through multiple phases to suck in and stretch the visitors defence. This allowed the backs to attack with both depth and width, cutting some superb running lines to produce a glut of tries.
With ruthless efficiency on the ball, Avon had scored 7 tries before half time for a 45 nil lead at the break. Tom Boreham started the scoreboard ticking with the first, whilst Kiddie Sheikh soon added the second. Xander Davis produced a man-of-the-match performance with powerful carries and turnovers and weighed in with 2 tries to bring up his 10th of the season. Matt Thresher and Iain Parris on the wings sprinted through for a try apiece, whilst flanker Dan Griffin celebrated his birthday with another touchdown.
Yatton manfully tried to stem the tide after the interval but to little avail as Avon continued to cut loose with an all-action display of power and pace. Further tries continued at regular intervals with Josh Hiscott getting in on the act and Boreham adding his second. Jonny Batchelor joined the spree with another try to add to his 9 successful conversions in a personal haul of 23 points.
Jake Coates produced his best performance of the season as he controlled Avon’s attacking game from fly half and cruised over the try line. As the game entered its final stages, Avon’s desire was unrelenting with Dan Cousineau also scoring his 10th try of the campaign before Zak Harwood put the icing on the cake with the final try at the end.
But perhaps the greatest cheer of the afternoon came when powerful centre Boreham ran over Parris on another unstoppable surge.
On Saturday Avon stage their final home game of the league season as they host Weston Super Mare 2nds. This promises to be a festival of rugby with the Avon old players reunion and their VIP lunch, together with the 6 Nations final round of matches on the big screens in the clubhouse, before the day is rounded off with the players sausage and cider party in the evening.
