This proved to be a huge success, played in beautiful weather in front of a large crowd of over 500 people, albeit on hard pitches but which had been well-prepared by Avon beforehand.
15 local sides were represented throughout the course of the tournament: Avon, Avonvale, Bath Saracens, BC Barbarians, BC Rebels, Bradford on Avon, Chippenham, Corsham, Devizes, Frome, Oldfield, Melksham, Midsomer Norton, Trowbridge, Walcot – who all contributed towards the success of the day and produced some thrilling rugby to entertain the spectators.
The main cup final was won by Trowbridge, whilst Devizes took the honours in the plate final.
Thanks are due to the Somerset Referees Society who ensured that the matches were officiated excellently and to the Bath Combination officials, including Sean Macey, Alex Dodgson and Nick Heal, who organised the event so successfully.
A special mention also to the group of Avon volunteers who manned the bar and BBQ all day, organised car parking, prepared the pitches, set up beforehand and then cleared up the grounds afterwards.
Huge credit to Rav, Muts & Muts, Clive, Kai, Kane, Sam, Damo, Ian, Jos, Iain, Steve and others who all played their part.
