Political unrest, the rise of Nazi-ism, King Edward VIII abdication, 4 gold medals in Berlin Olympics for Jesse Owens, whilst Avon grew in strength.

Then 6 years after our foundation, a second XV was created in 1931, playing under the captaincy of F Gillen-Mahony whilst Preston-Jones was Club Captain. F H Wood captained the Club for 3 years from 1933-1936 and was renowned as the Somerset Athletic Champion for three separate distances, the quarter-mile, half-mile and the mile. Another good season was recorded in 1933-34 with a record of Played 21, Won 15, Drawn 2, Lost 4, Points For 242, Points Against 102. By 1936, the Club had moved grounds from Odd Down to Bathampton, changing at the ‘George Inn’ next to the canal.
