During the first quarter, the outlook seemed rosy for Avon as they took an immediate lead with an unconverted try from Damien Sawyer after a scything break from Ross Atherton through midfield. Shortly afterwards, Avon missed two more scoring chances as they butchered an overlap through a case of white line fever, then were held up just short of the line from a driving maul.
When an Avon penalty rebounded from a post, Keynsham made no mistake at the other end with a successful kick to close the gap. With the speedy Keynsham backs always looking dangerous, they suddenly exploded into life with a 3 try blitz in the five minutes before half time that left their visitors reeling.
Although Jake Dixon was forced to leave the field at half time, Avon started strongly after the break but could only manage a penalty from Rob Fitch to reduce the deficit before Keynsham once again exploited their weakness with 2 more sharply taken tries to open up a decisive lead and collect a try scoring bonus point in the process.
Avon salvaged some pride with the final try from Ben Hurd but, other than a couple of dangerous runs from replacement Dan Ryan-Lowes and a consistent performance from winger Tim Wood, this was little consolation for the visitors who were soundly beaten.
