Avon did not have the best of preparation for this game when they lost back row Scott Book to injury in the warm up
Newly promoted Norton who come to Hicksfield off of the back of wins against Berry hill and Barton hill threw everything at Avon in the first 10 mins as they recycled time after time but although they camped on the Avon line the home teams defence was just too organised with the back row of Harwood Sawyer and Burnell putting in some telling tackles around the fringes which allowed Avon to weather the early storm.
The pattern of the game was set not long after when on Avon first venture into the Norton 22 scrum half Ollie Flight pounced on a loose ball when the norton scrum came under pressure as Avon put the shove on to score the first try. Fitch converted.
The pattern repeated itself with norton happy to playing one out rugby and keeping possession for long periods without making any real inroads and Avon picked their moment to attack and went from deep when outstanding Centre Ross Atherton went on a scything 40 m run to put Crane over in the corner.
Avon turned around 12 0 up and had a fright when Nortons pressure finally told when they fashioned a good try from fly half Andy Sinden
Avon once again had to soak up the pressure of the Norton one out game but with Chris Sawyer in immense form in defence they held firm until once again they picked their moment to attack and on 60 mins after a series of Drives scrum half Ollie Flight scored from close range. Atherton then capped a great afternoons work when he sprinted away from 40m to score the bonus point try under the posts. Norton were now chasing the game and were unlucky to concede again when replacement hooker Dan Ryan intercepted a quick throw in and fed lock Dixon who scored in the corner with a trademark Jake Quake swallow dive Rob Fitch converted.
