This was a real ding-dong affair as the lead changed hands 8 times with neither side able to open up a decisive breakthrough which kept both sets of supporters equally entertained and nervous.
For much of the match, Avon were strangely lethargic and conceded far too many soft penalties to keep their visitors in the game. The writing was on the cards as North Bristol opened the scoring with a penalty inside the first 30 seconds before Avon hit back with a try from the rampaging Ben Dilloway, converted by Fitch.
Avon's defensive work was solid throughout and restricted North to 2 further penalties for a 9 - 7 Bristol lead at half time.
Avon regained the lead after the break with a 40 metre drop goal from Fitch before scrum half Ollie Flight launched a blind side break to cut open the visitors' defence. 5 quick offloads later from the supporting runners saw hooker Ben Hurd storm over for an excellent try.
This seemed to inspire a feverish reaction from North, who pounded the Avon defence and eventually scored a converted try from a quickly taken short penalty to give them a single point lead with 15 minutes remaining.
As the penalty ping pong continued, Avon regained the lead with a Fitch penalty before carelessly conceding another penalty for North to again take a one point advantage. Then up stepped Fitch to coolly slot the winning kick which moves Avon up to 6th place in Western Counties North.
