27-16 Loss to Old Rivals Wells

A familiar start saw Avon pinned deep inside their own territory and two missed tackles cost them dearly as Wells scythed through for early tries. Once they started to secure some ball, Avon threatened and a scintillating break from Jonny Batchelor deserved more before the attack petered out through lack of support.
More Avon pressure eventually led to a penalty from Batchelor but they then failed to take advantage of a blindside overlap before Wells added their third try on the stroke of half time.
An improved second half performance saw threatening bursts from Xander Davis and Chaz Meddick. Then, after two strikes against the head from Sam Book, a powerful scrum surge saw Josh Harding-Wyatt storm over the try line.
After a disallowed try which the referee could not see beneath the pile of bodies, Avon sensed their opportunity and stormed back down field for Chris Mutlow to touch down their second try.
Another Batchelor penalty closed the gap to a single point but, as Avon hoped for a much-needed win, this seemed to inspire Wells who added two more tries inside the last five minutes to close out the game.
Next Saturday, Avon travel to fellow strugglers Whitehall in a match that is likely to determine who will end up bottom of the league.
