With Chaz Meddick, JJ Pulvertaft and Scott Book to the fore, Avon took play deep into the home 22 but two wayward passes suddenly conceded 50 metres territory and allowed Keynsham to add another converted try. They then repeated this on the stroke of half time for a 21 nil interval lead
This gave Keynsham the confidence to spread the ball wide, take chances and get in behind the first line of defence where their supporting runners took advantage in the autumnal sunshine. This resulted in a catastrophic six minute spell by Avon who conceded another 4 quick-fire tries to put the result beyond doubt.
To their credit, they regrouped and took the game to Keynsham with Xander Davis and Kane Book leading the forward charge and Zak Harwood and Stu Dilloway attacking the midfield whenever possible. After conceding several penalties to repel some short range Avon attacks, they eventually lost a player to the sin bin.
Seizing their opportunity, Avon snaffled a consolation try from hooker Ben Hurd, his 7th of the season to accompany his 4 strikes against the head in the set scrums. Keynsham though fittingly had the last word as another sweeping move went the length of the field for their final try.
The 2nds match at Imperial in Somerset 3 North ended in strange fashion as nobody was fully convinced of the score! The Avon coach had recorded a narrow Avon win in his notebook, Imperial thought that they had sneaked it, the ref didn’t know – so in typical grass-roots tradition, everybody agreed on a 28 all draw!
The Avon tries were scored by Jack Garmston, Dan Griffin (2), Ozzie Osborne and Ben Ten who had an outstanding match, with Matt Thresher slotting two conversions. Zak Holbrook put in a tremendous performance up front whilst Louis Belsten revelled in the conditions in his home town.
